We have presented ongoing work towards the development of a fiber-coupled multi-degree of freedom displacement interferometer for high precision stage metrology. The interferometer has demonstrated a Z-displacement noise level of 0.1 nm and rotational noise levels of 0.1 μrad. In a random step test, the X20 piezo stage showed repeatability below 0.4 nm over the full working volume.
