A steelmaking plant is characterized for having in its productive process non linear loads of high power. For these loads, the steelmaking industries called “mini-mill” normally have Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) in its initial steel production phase, that happen with metallic scrap melting being the principal raw material used. In this way the process of transformation the scrap to steel demand some care because of the aggressiveness of the own process that leave to a significant impact in the EAF feeder electric system. This work brings up a study of aspects related to the harmonic compensation for the feeder electric system, considering the Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) impact magnitude to the voltage and current distortion of the system. The study provide field measurements, harmonic and interharmonic analyze, and consequently the evaluation of the harmonic filters set that are part of the system.
