This study investigated how video test or simulator test means could affect the driving decision and emotion behaviors of 40 drivers. The videos or simulated scenarios in these two tests involved three identical landscape units in varied spatial patterns. In the first experiment, participants watched the video and filled in a questionnaire to record the variation of decision and emotion behaviors. In the second experiment, the same subjects drove in a simulator to record the heart rate and operation speed in order to validate the subjective measurements from the questionnaire. The results showed that no significant difference existed between simulator driving and a video watching for either decision or emotion behavior. And the additional condition for applying it was discussed further. The results provide theoretical support for the reliability of testing to quantize the landscape's influence on the drivers' emotion and decision processes during a video test.
