Experimental studies of the resilient modulus (M_R) and permanent strain (ε_p) behavior for a compacted red clay from Hunan, China are summarized in this paper. The focus of this research study is twofold: (1) to understand the influence of the compaction water content and the external stress level on the M_R and ε_p; and (2) to check the validity of a simple "integrated approach" to predict both the soil-water characteristic curve (SWCC) as well as the M_R - moisture content relationship. It is found that the M_R and ε_p of the red clay are sensitive both to the compaction moisture content and external stress level changes for the tested red clay and the "integrated approach" is capable of providing suitable predictions.
