Causalities as a result of loss of control in-flight (LOC-I) in general aviation (GA) present at an alarming rate each year, and have prompted investigation authorities' attention to address this issue in hope of increasing public awareness and promoting recommended solutions. To echo the demand from investigation authorities for safety enhancements, application of lightweight recording system in general aviation aircraft is proposed in this paper to achieve flight data monitoring (FDM). Flight tests on various GA aircraft were conducted without modification to the existing aircraft wiring and data of the flight parameters recorded were reviewed for their validity. Cockpit images recorded was examined for further use such as rotor speed spectral analysis. Once lightweight recording system is proved to generate reliable flight data on both fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft, it has a potential to be promoted to GA operators and owners for proactive installation for safety enhancement purpose.
