This paper describes the development of a Federation Object Model (FOM) for federations of Nuclear Carrier Vessel (CVN) Aircraft Launch and Recovery Equipment (ALRE) and Information Management (IM) system simulations in development at the Naval Air Systems Command (NA VAIR) Lakehurst, New Jersey, facility. It is based on a Conceptual Model of the Mission Space (CMMS) that was developed for supporting NAVAIR FOM development according to the Defense Modeling and Simulation Office (DMSO) Federation Development Process (FEDEP). The simulation space involves a High Level Architecture (HLA) environment including both Windows and Linux platforms, the NAVAIR models, and the Warfighting Concepts to Future Weapon System Design (WARCON) Joint Synthetic Battlespace (JSB). Interoperability among elements of the WARCON JSB requires compatibility of the NAVAIR Lakehurst FOM with the Joint Semi-Automated Forces (JSAF) FOM. The mission space is that of a CVN and higher levels of command, potential targets, the environment, and scenarios of the Time Critical Strike (TCS) / Time Critical Target (TCT) type. Relevance to the Simulation Interoperability Standards Organization (SISO) includes development of the NA VAIR CMMS and FOM; interoperability with JSAF; the utility of Integrated Definition (IDEF) modeling in the transition from a CMMS to a FOM; the lack of a comprehensive correspondence between the Defense Data Model (DDM) and SISO FOMs; and the compatibility of a unit-level FOM with an aggregate-level FOM.
