The paper presents an approach to nonlinear finite element analysis based on object-oriented programming techniques and focuses on the general design of the application framework of the finite element analysis core. Compared with the conventional procedural finite element programming, the advantage of the object-oriented programming method is shown, and the concept FEFC (Finite Element Foundation Class Library) is presented on condition that several data object classes are primarily constructed. Based on FEFC, an application framework of object-oriented finite element codes is designed. Using the framework, one can develop nonlinear finite element program conveniently. The encapsulation, inheritance and polymorphism in object-oriented methodology are implied.
