With the role of the engineer becoming increasingly more global, there is a greater need todevelop more global engineers, engineers equipped with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary totackle the world’s most complex problems. At Engineers Without Borders (EWB), we believe that we canhelp create more global engineers by incorporating our experiences in international development into theengineering curriculum. Our approach is not to add new classes to an already packed curriculum, butrather to augment and modify existing engineering classes to have more of a focus on globaldevelopment concepts. We present two classes in which we have implemented this approachsuccessfully: COM-21573 Ingénierie, Design et Communication at the Université de Laval, and APSC263 Technology and Development at the University of British Columbia.
