摘要

Acupuncture is an ancient therapy that has been clinically proven for treating pain and nausea, though by unknown mechanisms. Recent in vivo and ex vivo studies demonstrate that acupuncture generates changes in the local tissue biomechanical environment, which may have been overlooked in previous neurophysiological studies.During traditional acupuncture therapy, fine needles arc inserted into specific points on the body and manipulated, typically in the form of needle rotation. Recent studies have shown that subcutaneous connective tissue winds around the needle during rotation, and that fibroblasts within the connective tissue arc stimulated to change their morphology and remodel their cytoskcleton by the altered tissue mechanics.
