Abstract-On the basis of the datasets from the routine meteorological observations, radar, satellite and NCEP reanalysis and using numerical simulation and diagnostic analysis, this paper studies the mechanism of cold-air snowstorms and the cause of locally strong cold-air snowstorms in the north of Shandong Peninsula. The results indicate that the mechanism of cold-air snowstorms in the Shandong Peninsula is that as the strong cold air moves through Bohai and Bohai Strait, it exchanges heat and water vapor with the warm sea surface. When it arrives in the Shandong Peninsula, the air in the lower troposphere becomes unstable. The convergence system in the northern coast, formed by the land-sea breeze due to the land-sea temperature difference and the environmental wind, triggers the release of the unstable energy and produces the cold-air snowstorms in the north of Shandong Peninsula. The cause of the locally strong coldair snowstorms in the northern coast of Shandong Peninsula is that the convergence system in the western coast of Liaodong Peninsula moves downstream along with the northwesterly and combines with the convergence belt in the northern coast of Shandong Peninsula, leading to the strengthening of the local convergence and the local cold-air snowstorms.
