Pilot plant tests carried out on fish holding tank effluent from the Freshwater Institute of Environment Canada in Winnipeg and Assiniboine River water at Portage la Prairie indicated that effective and econmical treatment of water and wastewater for disinfection and taste and odour control was possible using ozone. As a result, two ozone treatment installations are proceeding in the Province; two 125 lb/day units for the City of Portage la Prairie for treatment in their new 5.0 MIGD water plant and two 22 lb/day units at the Freshwater Institute for treatment of effluent from the fish holding tanks, disease lab and quarantine lab. A discussion of the contact systems used is included.
