At first, the reason why we employed Chinese bituminous coal, Zao Zhuang coal in this study was explained. We have conducted RICO (ruthenium ion catalyzed oxidation) reaction to rcvlcal the aliphatic portion of this coal, and its ~(13)C NMR measurement and Curie-point pyrolysis to evaluate the frame structure by referring to the structural information being accumulated so far. By taking into account the other experimental results of this coal including recent study on gel formation, we also discussed the covalent and non-covalent bonding properties of the Zao Zhuang coal.
