In conjunction with a major European aerospace company a knowledge enriched aggregate process planning system, CAPABLE Sapce, is being developed to allow integrated design and manufacutirng decisions to occur at an enterprise wide level. The aim of the system is to allow rapid manufacturability assessment of alternative designs and calculate the impact on existing plans from changes to the design, process and resource selections. Reported here is the first step in attaining this goal, namely an aggreate product model, which provides a representation of the design in terms of manufacturable features, Initially a review of the role of features within a product model is presented, relating the current research to those preceding, specifically to the previous CAPABLE system. An overview of the CAPABLE Space system is given and the object oriented aggregate product model is presented along with an explanation of its functionality and examples of the model applied to a satellite panel.
