Arsenic trioxide has been demonstrated to be effective for the treatment of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) and can induce clinical remission in patients, including those who have relapsed after retionic acid treatment, by inducing apoptosis of cancerous cells.~1,2,3 Modulation of protein phosphorylation by binding to the vicinal thiols has been suggested as a possible mechanism.
