摘要

Transmucosal drug delivery (TMD) system delivers a drug across the mucous membrane to achieve a local or systemic effect for an extended period of time. Various mucoadhesive polymers for applying to TMD system have been developed by many researchers. Poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) has been considered as one of the best mucoadhesive polymers based on its excellent mucoadhesive property. However, the drawback of PAA to be used as matrix polymer for TMD system is high water solubility. High water solubility of PAA critically limits its use as TMD system, since it may be dissovled before the desired duration for the delivery of a drug across the membrane (1).
