In this paper we have analyzed the possibilities for increasing the functional performance of tank vehicles, putting a special Emphasis on the increase of their capacity, as the most important functional feature. Our work evolves around two different aspects. The first refers to the analysis of the advantages of circular annular over the "box-like" cross section of the tank shell, which is largely present in the manufacturing programme of world leading manufacturers of trailers. We have laid a special emphasis on the problem of "box-like" tank shells, resulting from ADR requirements and restrictions, which no longer exists once the tank shells with circular annular cross section are introduced. The second aspect of the carried out analysis refers to the optimisation of ADR tank body suspension. "Suspension cushions" design of the link between the tank shell and the base of tank vehicle has a very important influence on tank body behaviour and reliability. However, tank body suspension is, in effect, the result of the knowledge and experience of designers. In this study, we have considered the actual state, with a comment on the requirements and criteria which normatively regulate this segment. An important part of this paper is an analysis of load distribution throughout the tank body suspension zones on the basis of determined stress state, by means of final elements' method. Particularities of discrete model formation and of defining characteristic testing modes are explained. The paper resents the summary results, of the numerical prototyping that has been carried out, which are graphically presented and explained. The paper also covers additional lines of optimisation, as well as possibilities of solving inadequate current state.
