Low level laser irradiation has a number of beneficial effects in most species and models investigated to date. Whilst we do not necessarily understand the mechanisms involved we do understand that one common factor seen in intact cells following laser irradiation is the elevation of reactive species in the form of ROS and RNS. Here I summarise the main pathways that have been shown to be modulated by RS and how these may play a role in the beneficial effects seen following low level laser irradiation.
