Present Situation of the Dental World Regarding to the Use of Laser Therapy (Brazil)

The theme of our presentation is to introduce the current status of the Laser Therapy in Brazil. We've split the presentation into three blocks, being that on the first one we define the status of the Laser Therapy teaching policy in Brazil: Brazil is a pioneer country regarding to the teaching of laser therapy as a stand alone discipline being part of regular courses such as Dentistry and Physiotherapy, either at graduation and post-graduation level (Master and PhD). On the second block we discuss the main clinical applications of the laser therapy, and the principal trend of the current clinical researches: laser therapy is being used in almost all clinical procedures in Dentistry: wound healing, bone healing, dental tissue reparation, nervous tissue reparation, where two interesting lines of treatment and clinical research have gained some projection: treatment of systemic disorders with oral manifestation and treatment of oedema through the lymphatic drainage technique. On the third block, we present and discuss the main lines of research in Brazil, as well as their latest results: regarding to the laboratory research, we've been searching for the ideal parameters set up involving variables such as fluence, wavelength and irradiance.
