The information of the childhood cancer risk in the high-background radiation (HBR) area is quite limited. In the 4th conference of High Levels of Natural Radiation, Akiba et al. reported childhood cancer mortality in the HBR area of Yanjiang, China for the period 1979-1986. In the present paper, we update the study in China by extending the observation period to 1995. In addition, we present some preliminary results on the HBR area in Kerala, India, and discuss the problems to be addressed in the future studies.
