Virtual Fabrication of Steel Welded Plate Girders

摘要

During the fabrication of plate girders undesirable stresses and deformations develop mainly as a result of uneven temperature distributions. These stresses and deformations (imperfections) may signi cantly affect the performance (e.g. ultimate strength or fatigue life) of the structure. In the research described in this paper an effective numerical method to predict these imperfections is developed with the objective of incorporating this knowledge into the design procedures. This paper presents the background of the research including the dif culties in numerical welding simulation, the numerical solution strategy and the current state of the development illustrated with examples.
