The long-span prestressed steel roof with cable-stayed grids is a kind of new space assembly structure. Extensive research has been performed on its static behaviour. However, little work has been reported on its dynamic responses. In this paper,the Finite Element Method has been used to conduct a full range dynamic analysis on the long-span prestressed steel roof with cable-stayed grids from a practical project-Guangdong Modern International Exhibition Center. Firstly the free vibration characteristics of the grids were obtained,and the dynamic responses of the components in the structure under frequently occurred earthquake and seldom occurred earthquake were presented by time history method. Secondly the seismic coefficients were introduced to determine the earthquake actions. The method herein is simple and safe for practical use, and also takes the damping coefficients and the influence of prestress in cable-stayed ties into consideration. The distributions of horizontal and vertical earthquake action coefficients were given,and then those coefficients have been determined,which contributes greatly to the design work.
