This work is concerned with the numerical analysis of a general active thin shell structure which is constituted by (ⅰ) a thin shell made of a "classical" material and having a general shape; (ⅱ) some piezoelectric patches which are bonded upon the external surfaces of the shell and which work as actuators. In this way, a convenient 2D modelization is obtained, an existence and uniqueness result of a solution is proved, an approximation by accurate conforming finite elements is obtained, the associate convergence is studied and a numerical experiment proves the effectiveness of the method.
