Influenza A virus of swine (IAV-S) causes an acute respiratory disease resulting in significant productivity losses in all stages of production.1" Natural exposure to IAV-S in the early nursery stage is common and can predispose pigs to various production setbacks through the finisher stage. The presence of maternal antibodies (MA) in weaned pigs makes the utilization of vaccine challenging. Conflicting evidence exists regarding the value of vaccinating in the presence of MA in order to provide sufficient immunity.3"6 The objective of this study was to evaluate serological antibody response and weight gain of weaned pigs following vaccination with a commercially available killed IAV-S vaccine (FluSure XP~R, Parsippany, NJ) in the presence of MA, both pre and post IAV-S challenge with heterologous virus.
