Takotsubo cardiomyopathy is characterized by transient regional systolic dysfunction of the left ventricular usually with ECG typical for STEMI. The aim of our study was to determine the prevalence of this syndrome among the patients with the primary diagnosis of ACS. The prevalence of Takotsubo cardiomyopathy among 2651 patients referred to our Center with ACS was 0,67% (18 subjects). An acute cardiomyopathy was triggered by emotional or physical stress in 9 (50%) cases. The mean ejection fraction (EF) in the first echocardiography was 35 +- 6%. Unusual presentation of akinesia of all LV mid-segment and hyperkinesias of the basal and apical regions of LV was recorded in two cases. The diagnosis of Takotsubo syndrome, rare but not unique condition among patients with ACS should be based on coronary angiography and echocardiography.
