Dissimilar metal joints of Al-6061 to Al-1050 welded by EB were produced and evaluated. A special conical sample was designed and manufactured to obtain a variable concentration of silicon and magnesium in the weld metal The area of the welds and the number of cracks, maximum crack length and length of all cracks present were recorded. Linear and parabolic correlation between the total crack length and the silicon and magnesium concentration respectively, is reported.
