In our study we analyze the growth patterns of sphenoid wing men-ingiomas according to soft tissue and bony growth and given anatomical pathways in the area of anterior and middle fossa of the skullbase. We used NMR and CT scan for analysis of 44 patients, operated on from 1992 to 2001. A total of 69 patients is operated on sphenoid wing meningiomas in the same time. Only 15.9% of our patients show only an intracranial growth without any other tumor spread, the remaining 84.1% show very variable combinations of soft tissue and bony growth patterns. 20.5 % of patients with bony growth in CT scan do not show this pattern on NMR, so we highly recommend the preoperative CT scan for evaluation of bony growth of this tumor type.
