摘要

Ionic liquids (ILs), novel reaction media, have already attracted immense attention of organic chemists due to its ability to accommodate a wide varity of reactions. Among numerous ILs, imidazolium-type ILs are most widely used and investigated, particularly in the field of transition metal catalyzed reactions. Apart from facilitating the reactions as polar reaction media, imidazolium cations can form N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) complexes with metals which are implicated as the active catalysts for many reactions.
