Saline Compressive Injection Therapy for Lumbar Intervertebral Disc Hernia

摘要

As a conservative treatment for lumbar intervertebral disc hernia in 11 cases admitted in our department, 10-30mL of physiological saline solution was compressively infused into the hernia and its surrounding epidural space immediately followed by infusion of local anesthetic and steroid preparations. The level of intervertebral space treated with this compressive infusion was L3/4 in one case, L4/5 in 2 cases and L5/S in 9 cases. The frequency of infusion was once in 6 spaces, twice in 5 spaces and three times in 1 space respectively. As a result, 4 cases required no further analgesic treatment, 5 cases had a decreased number of analgesic treatment (relieved pain) and 2 cases had unchanged or aggravated pain with the efficacy rate more than effective of 82%. Furthermore, no complication or adverse reaction probably due to this treatment strategy was observed.
