摘要

There is an increased awareness about the problem of Air Pollution caused by Fly Ash from the bagasse fired boilers in the sugar industry. The Central and State Pollution Control Boards have issued instructions and the local enforcing authorities are insisting on installation of proper facilities to bring down the emission levels below 150 mg/NM~3. Tehnologists have come up with alternative cost effective solutions without the use of costly Electrostatic Precipitators (ESP). The process of evolution continues to find economically effective solutions. Recent developments of venturi type wet scrubbers being installed by environment - conscious managements in the industry has been critically reviewed and a case study discussed for better appreciation of this design with particular emphasis on operational and maintenance aspects.
