Nanocrystalline Co_(30)Ni_(70), Co_(30)Mo_(70), Ni_(30)Mo_(70), and Co_(10)Ni_(20)Mo_(70), metallic powders were prepared by mechanical alloying and characterized by linear polarization in 30 wt% KOH aqueous solution at room temperature on the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). The electrochemical behavior was related to the characteristics of enhanced solubility, morphology and nanometric grain size exhibited by the mechanically alloyed powders. X-ray diffraction analysis and scanning electron microscopy of alloyed powders showed the presence of two phases; an fcc solid solution and intermetallic compounds of Ni, Co and Mo. The linear sweep voltammograms confirmed these results. The Co_(30)Ni_(70) alloyed powders showed the best catalytic activity for HER.
