We have performed ultrasonic measurement on the filled skutterudite compound SmRu_(4)P_(12) at low temperatures. We observed a clear softening below around 2 K in the elastic constant (C_(11)-C_(12))/2 even below the metal-insulator transition temperature of 16.5 K. It strongly suggests that this softening is not originated from the ground state property of Sm ion formed by the crystalline electric field effect. We discuss the obtained elastic softening based on a deformation potential model.
