Key parameters that affect the densification of pure TiB_2 were being determined. The pure TiB_2 powders used in the determination of the key parameters were obtained from commercial sources. Taguchi methods were used lo study the significant factors in achieving high green density from pressed TiB_2 pellets. The results of the study showed that pressing pressure and powder dryness account for -66 percent of the factors that effect TiB+2 green density. A confirmation study confirmed that the optimal configuration of the factors studied was pressing with a dual action configuration at 20,000 psi with powder that was not dried. Pressed samples were fired between 1800 - 2100 deg C using a reducing atmosphere. Preliminary results indicated that densification of these materials may begin at 1800 deg C. Samples that were fired at 1800 deg C showed evidence of early densificalion stages while samples fired al 2100 deg C showed varying degrees of densification.
