Nonlinear generalizations of Rayleigh-Love and Bishop theories of longitudinal vibrations of bars are considered and compared with classical nonlinear theories. It is supposed that the nonlinearities are stipulated by the strains and the constitutive strain-stress law is linear. Equations of motion are obtained by the Lagrange equations. Numerical solution of these equations at large exciting force demonstrates a substantial influence of quadratic and cubic terms, which is reflected in spectra of the solutions that are analyzed by a discrete Fourier transform.
