The relatively high concentration and possible persistence of the dicarboxylic degradation products (CAPECs) of nonylphenol polyethoxylates (NPEOs) were detected periodically in river water and sewage samples. The relatively high concentration and environmental persistence of CAPECs have motivated on-going efforts to identify them. However, little is known on the occurrence and fate in the aquatic environment of CAPECs due to lack of commercially available authentic standards.
