Peptide sequencing by Nano LC-ESI-MS/MS is the main technique for protein identification in proteomics. Typically a protein digest sample is separated in one hour, employing 75 (mu)m ID packed nano columns. For large-scale proteomics analysis this approach is rather time consuming and therefore typically applied for samples that do not reveal enough information with MALDI-MS. With the chromatographic separation as being the time limiting factor Polystyrene-divinylbenzene (PS-DVB) monolithic supports can reduce the LC-MS/MS analysis time significantly. Integration of the PS-DVB monolithic column and electrospray needle provides a dead-volume free and highly efficient separation system for peptides and proteins.
