By constantly perfusing all tissues in the body, blood serum is rich in proteomic information; potentially containing all proteins present in the body. Apart from the classical serum proteins, other serum proteins can enter the blood stream in any number of ways, the secretion of proteins to the blood stream, through the death of a cell, or by tissue rupture events.
