The mass resolution of FT-ICR mass spectra (FTMS) is already quite outstanding. This is for example used to determine the molecular weight of large molecules, like intact proteins, by acquiring electrosprayionization (ESI) mass spectra. Although these spectra provide excellent resolution on all their multiply charged ion species, classical charge deconvolution (based on summing up the multiple-charged ion patterns) often produces a deconvoluted isotope pattern of limited quality.
