Brevibacillus Brevis XDH is an antagonistic bacterium with high antibacterial activity against many pathogens. Fermentation medium for the production of the antibacterial substances was statistically optimized by Plackett-Burman design, steepest ascent experiments and response surface methodology. The optimized medium was composed of (g/L): glucose 15.6, soybean meal 28.4, starch 6, CaCO_3 2 and MgSO_4 4. After optimization, the production of antibacterial metabolites increased more than 70% than that of control.
