摘要

A treatment train consisting of multiple remediation technologies has been designed and implemented for the phased full-scale remediation of a former fire training area located at the former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base, South Carolina. Investigative activities at the site have identified soils and groundwater impacted with volatile organic compounds (VOCs), including chlorinated ethenes, ethanes, and methanes; fuel con- stituents including diesel range organics, benzene, chlorobenzene, and dichlorobenzenes; and fire-retardent chemicals including bromochloromethane. The phased remediation has focused on targeting the source areas, followed by the plume hot spot, and subsequently the dilute VOC plume. The technologies implemented include excavation with off-site disposal, in situ chemical oxidation (ISCO), in situ enhanced bioremediaiton (ISEB), and groundwater extraction and treatment.
