A compression of trigeminal root or ganglion produced prolonged mechanical allodynia and hyperalgesia in the cutaneous territory of the affected nerve. Microinjection of LPA produced demyelination of axonal portion in the trigeminal ganglion as well as dramatic increases in the responses to mechanical stimulation. Based on these observations, the present data provide that compression of the trigeminal root or ganglion-induced prolonged noci-ceptive behavior may be of great value for rodent animal model of trigeminal neuralgia.
