摘要

The global economic forecast has recently become much more complex. On one hand, the economy is generally developing as anticipated. On the other hand, recent events in the Middle East & North Africa are calling this forecast into question by putting strong upward pressure on already rising commodity prices. This analysis will summarize current economic conditions as well as address recent events and their potential impact on that forecast. Specifcally, we have attempted to address oil price volatility by defning price bands and examining their respective impacts on the global economy. Thus, without forecasting energy prices per se, we can use scenarios to better understand today's uncertain climate. The fndings suggest that today's average oil prices can be tolerated by the global economy as could prices roughly 20 percent higher. However, further price hikes would begin to cause signifcant strains on global growth.
