摘要

Acute pain is defined as pain of recent onset and probable limited duration. It usually has an identifiable temporal and causal relationship to injury or disease. Approximately 30-80% of postoperative patients complain about moderate to severe post-surgical pain, indicating acute postoperative pain is still not managed satisfactorily. Although many new discoveries are being made in pain research, the ability to translate these findings to a number of acute pain states is very limited. Further more, advances in knowledge do not necessarily lead to the same degree of progress in patient care. Efforts have been made by various groups to publish and promote guidelines based on scientific evidence in order to improve patient care.
