Receptors for gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) are expressed in many extra-pituitary tissues and their role and mechanism of action in gynecological tumors are well characterized. GnRH and its analogs utilize the G_(q/11) signaling pathway in the pituitary whereas, in ovarian, endometrial, and prostate cancer cells, the G_i pathway is activated.
