摘要

Epigenetic silencing of tumor suppressor genes by hypermethylation is common in human invasive urinary bladder cancer (transitional cell carcinoma, TCC). Demethylating agents, such as 5-azacitidine (5-aza), may provide novel treatment for TCC. Naturally-occurring canine TCC mimics human invasive TCC. Studies in dogs may provide key information about 5-aza (efficacy, toxicity, dosage) to help plan human clinical trials.
