Esophageal cancers are relatively rare form of cancer with less chance of cure. ESCC occurrence is increasing in developing world due to the potential risk factors such as tobacco and alcohol consumption. Our study provides the most comprehensive list of differentially expressed proteins in ESCC till date, which should serve as a resource for systematic validation of candidate biomarkers for early detection of ESCC. Some of the key regulatory molecules which found to be associated with esophageal cancers were identified in this study. Periostin is recently been validated by our group as a molecular marker of ESCC. Molecular biomarkers for diagnosis and prognosis of ESCC are very much essential for further therapeutics. Our study also identified many novel candidate molecules which may serve as potential diagnostic markers.
