New Sample Preparation Method Improves Multi-Residue Screening of Veterinary Drugs in Meat and Milk and Ensures Food Safety

Method improvements made via lipid removal for screening veterinary drugs in meat and milk as per the Japan Positives list resulted in improved clean-up and recoveries. An additional filtration step by Captiva ND~(Lipids), specific for phospholipid removal, provides a complementary, simple, and cheap final step before analysis. The average improvement in recovery for milk, pork, and eel was between 20 and 23percent. The average improvement in recoveries for yellowtail was 50percent. Apparently, yellowtail has a higher lipid content which is efficiently and effectively removed after filtration. RSD values for all drugs screened varied from 3 -10percent (n velence 6). The new and improved method developed meets the 10 ppb detection limit requirement set by the Japanese Positive List.
