Paraquat (1, 1 '-dimethyl-4, 4'-bypiridinium)is one of herbicide, often used in many counties. However, in some case with wrong usage of paraquat, paraquat shows toxicity against human, especially on framer. In these cases, paraquat produces reactiveoxygen species (ROS) to show its toxicity. One of important toxicity in paraquat against mammal is to induce Parkinsonism. 1-methyl-4-phenylpyridinium (MPP+), the structure is similar to paraquat have been known to induce Parkinsonism. MPP+ is metabolized from l-methyl-4-phenyl- 1, 2, 3, 6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP), impurity in stimulant. Because paraquat and MPP+ have similar structure, paraquat also is concerned with Parkinson's disease [M]. It is also known that paraquat activates Mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase (MEK) - extracellular signal-regulated kinases (ERK) and c-Jun N-terminal kinases (JNK) in brain neuroblasts. These kinases are known to concerned with the differentiation of cells to macrophages, adipocytes and muscle, suggesting the importance of these kinases in the differentiation of these kind of tissues. Paraquat is known to induce injury on the lungs. Then paraquat induces the differentiation of interstitial cells into muscle cells in the lung of monkeys suggesting that paraquat perturbs the differentiation of muscle cells.
