摘要

Although loss of control is the leading cause of air transport accidents worldwide, U.S. Federal Aviation Administration requirements for the commercial pilot rating do not mandate upset recovery training as a requirement for receiving the certificate. We explain why an upset-recovery training program should be required for pilots pursuing the commercial rating; define the goal of the program; and describe a proposed training syllabus based on classroom/online instruction, low-cost flight simulator training, and all-attitude maneuvering in an aerobatic general aviation airplane. Concluding remarks briefly address the significant challenge of ensuring an adequate supply of air transport new hires possessing the pilot requisite pilot competencies.
