摘要

Typically, results of pain trials have been reported as average pain scores for the different treatment groups in the trials. Relying on such mean data, however, is inappropriate if the underlying raw data do not follow a normal (Gaussian) distribution. The alternative is to use responder outcomes, for example, >50% improvement in pain scores over the course of a trial or a pain state of <30mm on the 0-100mm visual analogue pain scale at trial end. In order to validate these responder outcomes, this paper shows that they correspond to improvements in other domains of life using examples from different painful conditions.
