The ARISS (Amateur Radio on the InternationalSpace Station) program began operations from ISSin December 2000, as the first payload activated bythe first crew. To date, ARISS has held over 1270contacts in 62 countries, providing over 500,000students with direct exposure to ham radio andrelated lessons. Along the way, ARISS equipmenthas given thousands of hams access to astronautsand a space-based platform for communications.
